The Losers Edge
Everyone who hasn't reached the level of success they want to be at has the same advantage: they are able to take on more risk than their more talented and successful counterparts.
Why?
Because they simply have less to lose in comparison.
They don’t have a big scholarship to lose
They don’t have a team about to call them up to the Big Leagues
They don’t have teammates counting on them to win games
They don’t have the respect and admiration of their friends and schoolmates because
They don’t have anything to lose.
They need to be taking on as much risk in their training protocols as they possibly can with the one caveat of this: the risk is worth the squeeze so long as it also adds possible reward to their performance.
This advantage is shared by everyone is any walk of life who is unhappy with where they are in life.
You have the ability to do something about it, and you are given the gift of taking the highest risk outcome that can lead to the highest amount of improvement.
I've said it before and ill say it again, i believe that most people can make drastic improvements in themselves and their career if given enough time.
18 months of the best foot forward every single day to your training in the most aggressive way possible can change everything.
Every time that I have been down on my game, and have pushed all my chips to the center and trained with nothing to lose, I have made huge strides.
The magic comes in being able to recognize your advantage and go all in, too many people hold the false belief that they have something to lose when they really don't.
Everyone is worried about things getting worse, but they failed to realize that if they don't make things better than they won't have the opportunity to do what they love much longer
The opportunity to play the game of baseball is fleeting, and it comes to an end for everyone. What's the point in ending your career with more left in the tank?
What's the difference with your career ending because you were bad in your career ending because of an injury?
It might be a controversial opinion but I really do believe that most people need to be assessing their career and taking on as much risk as they can in order to improve as much as they possibly can. Most of us were not blessed with the ability to roll out of bed and throw the ball 100 miles an hour. Most of us weren't even blessed with the ability to roll out of bed and throw the ball 90. if this is you, congratulations you've won the lottery. but it isn't. don't be scared of what might happen in the negative. Focus every ounce of your energy on the positive and what you can do to increase your talent level and capabilities.
After a certain amount of time the only thing that will keep you going is how good you are, some people will never reach their full ability because they really never put the pedal down and push their limits.
Don't end your career never knowing what you could have accomplished. it's way better to end your career knowing that you were just really bad.
Embrace the fact that you aren't someone who won the genetic lottery. if you were the story of making it wouldn't be nearly as cool. push all your chips to the center and see what can happen, it might just surprise you what you can accomplish.
